NYC Outdoor Dance Events - House music gatherings
In this letter, we provide you with information about the objectives of this research project and what the project entails for you.
Purpose
You are invited to participate in a research project that aims to explore how individuals transition from observers to active participants at outdoor dance events, specifically focusing on house music events. The project seeks to understand the triggers of dance engagement, movement patterns, and social interactions within these settings. This is a master degree study and may also contribute to other research projects, teaching materials, and future studies in cultural dynamics.
Who is responsible for the research project?
Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is responsible for the project (data controller), in collaboration with Choreomundus - Erasmus Mundus Program.
Why have you been included in the study?
You are being asked to participate because you are an attendee of open-air house music events in New York, which are the focus of our study. Your participation will help us gain insights into the communal and individual dynamics at these events.
What does the project mean for you?
If you agree to participate, you will be observed during the events, and may be asked to participate in brief interviews (voluntary). Your interactions and movements will be recorded on video, and notes may be taken electronically. All data will be handled confidentially, stored securely, and processed anonymously.
You can object
You can object to being included in this research project at any time, and you do not have to give a reason. All your personal data will then be deleted. There will be no negative consequences for you if you choose to object.

- To ensure that no unauthorized persons are able to access the personal data, the data will be stored on a locked server.
What happens to your personal data at the end of the research project?
The planned end date of the project is 31.12.2026.
The information will be archived until the end date, and deleted after. If the data would be to be used in future research (example phd studies) you will be asked for your consent again before 31.12.2026. Your data will be handled in compliance with GDPR regulations, ensuring the highest standards of privacy and data protection.
